 Industrial Designer

"Design must seek to connect emotionally with the user, fostering compelling communication to all senses...

...only then can the product truly be something the users can't live without."

Graduating with distinction from the Carleton University School of Industrial design, Son holds numerous patents and have been involved in the development of 200+ projects in a wide range of industries including medical, diagnostic, sports, entertainment, furniture, packaging, UI/UX, graphics and branding.

His professional career began in 2001 when he re-joined MASS Engineered Design Inc. after working there as an intern from 1998 to 2000.  It was during this internship that Son lead the design efforts for the patented MASS Multiple Viewing System, a unique multi screen solution using LCD monitors arranged in 2,3,4 and 6 configurations.  Other highlights include leading the design and development of  the patented Quick Release System for easy monitor connectivity, and collaboration with the in-house award winning design team on projects for major clients such as Black & Decker, Brita, Barringer & Polycom Inc.

In 2006, Son joined Kangaroo Design & Innovation, an ISO 13485 QMS certified medical design company specializing in consumer products and medical devices/equipment.  As Lead Designer and Project Manager, Son has led his teams in designing compelling solutions for clients such as IMRIS Inc., CellAegis Devices, Skillz Systems, Thornhill Research, FIO Corporation, and HoMedics Canada.

In 2013, Son joined Mako Invent, a downtown Toronto firm catering to inventors and small businesses, with a mandate to improve the design quality and contribute to the growth of the design team and company.  In the 3 and a half years since, the company has grown from a 5 person team to a 20 person team with additional offices in Austin, TX.
