ROBOTIC COMMAND CONSOLE (RCC) - IMRIS Inc.

The next generation of Robotic Surgical systems that is distinctly evident in its look and feel, offering new and innovative solutions to ergonomic and usability requirements.  Designed for use in conjunction with the IMRIS NeuroArm, the RCC system is fully adjustable and incorporates Haptics UI force feedback hand controls, dual 3D monitors and adjustable elbow rest.  Additionally, the system easily converts into a compact transport mode, designed to fit through 38 inch wide doorways.

CHALLENGES:

ERGONOMIC - Tasked with creating a system that can easily adjusts to the ergonomic needs of numerous Surgeons varying in size, shape and height.  Extensive research into ergonomic workflow  combined with optimal adjustability through the use of full scale mock-ups were keys to successful completion.  This console can fit all Surgeons but we needed to ensure it was easy and intuitve for them to adjust as well.

TRANSPORT MODE - When in use, the Haptics controls measures 45 inches in total width, which is beyond the 38 inches required to fit through all doorways. This issue was resolved by attaching each Haptics assembly to a slider.

Additionally, the elbow rests are designed to slide fore and aft, while the foot control plate flips upwards, transforming the RCC into a compact package that is easy to control and less prone to accidental contact.

DAMAGE CONTROL - The aesthetic curved orange line are designed as hard plastic bumpers which takes up most of the scratches and damage that occurs on most hospital equipment.
